ISLAMABAD: Pakistan assured visiting British Prime Minister David Cameron on Sunday that it would promote efforts to reach a peace deal in neighbouring Afghanistan before Nato's planned withdrawal.
Cameron is on his second visit to Pakistan and is the first foreign head of government to visit Islamabad since Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif took office in June after winning elections in May.

MQM chief Altaf Hussain takes back resignation
KARACHI: Few hours after announcing his surprise resignation as the chief of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Altaf Hussain withdrew his earlier decision on the appeal of his party workers.

Car bomb in Peshawar's Badaber area kills 17, injures 46
PESHAWAR: At least 17 persons, including three children, were killed and more than 46 injured in a blast on Sunday near Peshawar's Badaber police station targeting a convoy of security vehicles.
According to latest reports, Lady Reading Hospital sources confirmed that 17 people had died in the blast whereas 45 others were injured.

Quetta: Hazara Town suicide blast leaves 28 dead, over 60 hurt
Capital City Police Officer, Mir Zubair Mehmood confirmed to Dawn.com that at least 28 people were killed and over 70 were injured as a suicide bomber riding a bicycle blew himself up in a crowded area 40 to 50 metres away from an Imambargah.
Mehmood said the dead included nine women as well as a minor girl.

Zardari reiterates support to peace process in Afghanistan
ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari Saturday said Pakistan was a staunch supporter of peace and stability in Afghanistan and would support every effort aimed at restoring sustainable and long-term peace to the war-torn country.
The President was talking to British Prime Minister David Cameron, soon after his arrival here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.

ISLAMABAD: A Christian girl who was accused of burning Islam's holy book in a case that focused international attention on Pakistan's harsh blasphemy laws was forced to move to Canada over security concerns, her lawyer said Saturday.

Sindh budget approved amid opposition boycott
KARACHI: Despite immense resistance from the opposition benches, the Pakistan People's Party-dominated Sindh Assembly on Saturday approved the finance bill and provincial budget for the year 2013-14 with a total outlay of Rs 6.17 trillion.

Rs326 billion circular debt to be settled before June 30: ECC
ISLAMABAD: The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet Thursday decided that Rs326 billion circular debt would be settled before June 30 while the rest of the amount would be settled before August 10.
The first meeting of the ECC, which met under the chairmanship of Minister for Finance, Revenue and Economic Affairs Mohammad Ishaq Dar, also approved Rs2 billion Ramzan Package for availability of major kitchen items on reduced prices from more than 4000 utility stores.

No additional taxes on IMF pressure, Dar tells NA
ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Ishaq Dar on Thursday told the National Assembly that no more taxes would be imposed on the pressure of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for its financial bail-out package.
Programme or no programme, we shall not impose further taxes. We have rejected the proposal of IMF for imposition of more taxes,148 he said.
Dar was speaking in response to points raised by the members in discussion on the finance bill during the first reading.
