By-polls:ECP rejects Punjab govt plea against army deployment

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan has dismissed the Punjab government146s recommendation against deployment of army at sensitive polling stations during the by-elections.
The army has been summoned to provide security at 1,021 polling stations which have been declared sensitive in the province. By-elections on 22 constituencies will be held on August 22 in the Punjab which includes seven National and 15 provincial assembly seats.A total of 3,844 polling stations will be set up for the election, while 724 stations have been declared sensitive and 297 highly sensitive. The army will be deployed outside the sensitive polling stations.
