LAHORE: By-elections in Punjab will be held on August 22 on 22 constituencies and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has sought army deployment at 1,021 sensitive polling stations.
Speaking to Geo News, Election Commissioner Punjab said the security plan was finalised after consultation with the provincial government. He added that polling would take place on seven National Assembly and fifteen provincial assembly seats in Punjab.3,844 polling stations will be set up and 724 have been declared sensitive and 297 highly sensitive. A requisition has been submitted for army deployment outside the sensitive polling stations.
Meanwhile, the Punjab government has opposed the ECP request for army deployment at sensitive polling stations. According to sources, the Punjab government has recommended that it can ensure law and order during polls.
