PPP seeks PML-Ns nod for local govt bill

KARACHI: A four-member delegation of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) riday held talks with the Sindh governments committee on new local government law at the chief minister house.

MPA Irfanullah Marwat led the PML-N delegation comprising Sorath Thebo, Shafi Muhammad Jamote and Humayun Khan, while the government side was represented by Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, Dr Sikander Mandhro, Sharjeel Memon and Murad Ali Shah.
The government side presented the draft of proposed local government bill to the PML-N leaders. Both sides, however, agreed to continue contacts and discussion.

Separately, a meeting of the government committee of local government bill was held in the CM House with Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah in the chair.

It discussed the progress so far achieved regarding the bills. It was decided to continue consultation with the political parties to develop consensus on the proposed law.

Earlier on Thursday, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) had showed 145flexibility146 to Muttahida Qaumi Movement reservations over proposed amendments to the Sindh Local Government Ordinance (SLGO), 1979, during brief and inconclusive talks between leaders of the two parties at the Chief Minister146s House.

The MQM leaders avoided talking to journalists after the meeting while sources privy to talks said they insisted on giving more powers to the civic bodies in the proposed draft.
