Appointment of army chief PM's discretion: Mamnoon Hussain

ISLAMABAD: President-elect of Pakistan, Mamnoon Hussain, Saturday said that appointment of Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) was purely prime minister's discretion, Geo News reported.
"The prime minister can even kick a junior general upstairs to the office of the army chief if he is better suited to the job in terms of professionalism, capability, and judiciousness", said Hussain during an exclusive interview with Geo News.
Hussain said that, at the moment, he knew too little about the "appointment" of COAS to suggest anything to the prime minister in this regard. In the same breath he, however, added that being the supreme commander of the armed forces, he would certainly advise the premier on it if he were informed enough to have his say in this matter by the time of the decision.

To a question, he said that army's help could be sought to bring law and order situation under control in Karachi.
