KARACHI: Local cement sales plunged by 10.43 per cent while exports reduced by 0.75pc in July 2013.
Total cement dispatches (local and exports) in July 2013 dropped by 7.8pc to 2.595 million tonnes as against 2.816m tonnes in July 2012.The local sales amounted to 1.846m tonnes of which, 1.506 million tonnes were dispatched by mills located in the Northern region and 0.339m tons from the South.
The industry during the corresponding month of last year dispatched 2.060m tonnes of cement.
Total exports in July 2013 amounted to 0.749m tonnes against 0.755m tonnes in July 2012.
Exports from the North declined from 0.615m tonnes in July 2012 to 0.525m tonnes in the first month of this fiscal year. Exports from South, however, registered increase from 0.139m tonnes in July last year to 0.224m tonnes in the same month of this fiscal year.
A spokesman for All-Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA) said monsoon and commencement of Ramazan shrank dispatches in the first month of the new fiscal year 2013-14.
