ISLAMABAD (APP) - Director General Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab Muhammad Asif has said that about 90 villages and 60,000-65,000 people are affected by floods while about 4000 people are lodged in relief camps.
Talking to Radio Pakistan, Director General Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Capt Muhammad Asif (r) said control rooms have established in all the districts to keep them informed about the latest river flow situation.He informed that on the instructions of the government, a sub-office has immediately been set up by the PDMA at Jam Pur for relief activities where edibles and essential commodities will be provided to the flood affectees. He said all the districts have completed inspection of dykes and carried out repair wherever needed while 20 relief camps have been set up in different flood affected areas.
He said government was providing packed-food while doctors were also deputed in these camps.
The PDMA official said flood water would recede in the next one or two days, adding, he visited flood-affected areas in Jam Pur on Sunday.
He said on the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister, financial assistance of 0.5 million rupees will be given to the heirs of each dead person.
Capt Asif said instructions have been issued to the local administration for the survey of the losses caused to the agricultural land, houses, roads and other places due to flood, adding, seeds and fertilizers will be provided free of cost to the farmers whose crops were destroyed by the flood water.
He said marooned people are being shifted to safer places while tent villages have been set up for the flood affectees where calamity-stricken people are being provided edibles while health department staff is providing vaccinating against epidemics.
The PDMA official said livestock have also been shifted to safe places where medicines and vaccination are being given to the cattle.
The Director General said sufficient amount of relief items have also been stored to help the affected population in the time of need.
He added that Rajan pur and Dera Ghazi Khan districts are expected to receive more rains this year and necessary preparations have been made to handle with the situation.
Commissioner, SMBR, provincial secretaries, Members Provincial Assembly and officers of district administration were also present on the occasion.
