Meeting on missing persons today

ISLAMABAD: Attorney General Muneer A. Malik will hold a special meeting in his office on Thursday (today) to chalk out a comprehensive plan for settling the chronic and emotive issue of missing persons.
The meeting is expected to be attended by officials of the relevant departments, Advocate Faisal Siddiqui, special consultant to the attorney general, told the Supreme Court on Wednesday.
The bench, headed by Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja, was hearing the case of Fasihullah, who allegedly was picked up by intelligence agency personnel from Adiyala prison in 2010 soon after the Lahore High Court146s order for his release.
The Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances had noted in a report that Fasihullah was under detention in one of the internment centres in Lakki Marwat.
The court expressed disappointment at being informed that authorities concerned had not allowed Fasihullahs brother Ziaullah to meet him at the internment centre.
The court asked the government counsel to identify the army officials who were not allowing meetings between the detained person and his relatives. 147We need to find out who is responsible so that we may take action against him,148 it said, adding that some elements were maligning the government as well as the spy agencies through illegal acts.
Mr Siddiqui asked the bench to grant time for taking up the matter in the meeting after which the case was adjourned till Friday.151Staff Reporter
