ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday ordered the registration of a case against former military ruler General (retd) Pervez Musharraf for his alleged involvement in the Lal Masjid operation, DawnNews reported.
IHCs Justice Noorul Haq Qureshi issued the order during the hearing of a petition filed by Haroon Rasheed, son of Lal Masjids Ghazi Abdul Rasheed, against Musharraf for his involvement in the killing of his father and grandmother.
During the hearing, Justice Qureshi said that Haroon Rasheeds statement should be recorded.The Lal Masjid operation was a 2007 government crackdown on the controversial pro-Taliban mosque in Islamabad, which ended in a bloody eight-day siege killing at least 58 Pakistani troops and seminary students.
A number of witnesses in their statements had alleged that Musharraf, then president of Pakistan, was responsible for the action.
