Court limits Sethi146s authority as PCB chief

KARACHI: A court in Pakistan issued a legal notice to acting Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Najam Sethi on Tuesday, limiting his authority to make crucial decisions as head of the cricket board.
According to the notice, the Sindh High Court has restricted Sethis powers to only a few clauses of the PCB constitution.
The controversial appointment of Najam Sethi, who also has served as caretaker chief minister of Punjab province, has attracted criticism from several quarters.
The court, hearing a petition filed by former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif, directed Sethi to act in accordance with the powers accorded to an acting chairman under article 6(1) (a) to (e) only as prescribed under the PCB constitution till the next date of hearing.
The mentioned clauses of the constitution allow the chairman to only summon, preside over and adjourn board meetings.
Till the next date of hearing respondent No. 3 [acting PCB chairman] shall exercise powers only in terms of clause (a) to (e) of the article 6 (1) of the constitution of Pakistan Cricket Board, the order said.
Earlier, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) had allowed Sethi to continue as PCB chairman but hold elections within 90 days of former chairman Zaka Ashrafs suspension.
