LSM grows 4.17pc in 11 months

ISLAMABAD: Large Scale Manufacturing (LSM) registered a growth of 4.17 per cent during the first 11 months of 2012-13 over the corresponding period of last fiscal year.
The LSM grew by 2.65pc during May 2013 when compared with the same month of last year, according to data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
The Quantum Index Numbers of LSM stood at 117.55 points during July-May (2012-13) against 112.85 points during July-May (2011-12).
Industries monitored by the Oil Companies Advisor Committee (OCAS) registered an increase of 0.81pc in growth while indices of Ministry of Industries grew by 1.68pc and that of Provincial Bureaus of Statistics by 1.67pc.
The manufacturing items that witnessed growth during the first 11 months of the current year over the same period of last year included textile 1.37pc, food beverages and tobacco 9.01pc, coke and petroleum products 14.98pc, paper and board 17.41pc, rubber products 14.57pc, pharmaceuticals 10.31pc, non-metallic mineral products 5.54pc, iron and steel products 9.05pc and leather products 0.10pc.
The manufacturing items that witnessed decrease in production during the period included fertilisers 4.70pc, electronics 4.35pc, wood products 12.77pc, engineering products 15.89pc, automobiles 11.93pc and chemicals 0.52pc.
Industrial growth during May 2013 increased by 2.65pc as against May 2012. It, however, decreased by 4.61pc when compared with April 2013.151APP
